Hope you all are enjoying this time of year! I know I am...although I can't hardly believe it is here already! Where did the time go? I am SO behind on my Christmas traditions (decorating, Christmas cards, etc...) that I have just given up! My stockings finally got hung 2 days ago and I finished my shopping yesterday. I only got one tree up and I still have my fall wreath on my door. Oh well! Rather than go nuts trying to get it all done, I choose to be happy and enjoy time with my family!

I am very excited to announce that the Santa & Me portrait event is back for 2011. I was not planning on doing it again, but had so many clients requesting it, I really wanted to make it work!

It is going to be a ONE DAY ONLY event! So, to make sure you all get special time with Santa, I will do the process a little bit differently. But one thing is for sure, your little ones will get precious time with the "big man in red" and you will get to choose your favorite images to be printed on the metallic paper you love!

While the link has been on my blog, I don't know if I have actually posted about its meaning. The American Charity Guild of Children's Photographers is an organization that I am so very proud to be a part of! It provides families with terminally ill children with precious portraits of their child's last days at no cost.

This is a national organization, so familes from all over the country can receive these services from photographers in their areas. Please visit the website for all of the details. While we all as parents hope to never need these type of services for our own children, please know they exist in case you hear of anyone that might could benefit from them.

I have SO neglected my blog! I am so sorry guys! I'll try to briefly catch you up...

In November, my family went to Washington DC (in fact, some of you probably got the message that I was out of town via email or voicemail if you tried to contact me). While we were there, I took some amazing shots of the Washington Monument. I was SO happy with how these turned out!!

After that, it was last minute rush to get everyone's orders in and finalized before the Christmas holidays! Usually after I reopen in January, there is a lull...but not this year! There has been an unexpected influx of babies this winter! I have met some gorgeous expectant mothers...and their beautiful babies! Here are just a few of my favorites that are sized for the web...

I have also met other families and babies. Not as many of these have been sized, but here is what has been done so far...

My girls had a dance recital about a week ago and my oldest is getting ready for the National competition coming up in July. They both love dance--and they look so stinkin' cute too! :)

These are a really great way to display more than one portrait from your session. If you can't make up your mind on which is your favorite, this is definitely the way to go. A Storyboard is a 10x20 printed portrait with three of four portraits and a quote or favorite saying. A Collage is a 11x14, 16x20 or 20x20 printed portrait with multiple of your favorite portraits. Both styles are mounted on a hard backing. Here are a few recent samples of collages and storyboards:

I cannot seem to keep up with this blog!! I am so sorry, guys!

What a crazy time of year. Here are a few things worth mentioning before I show you some images...

All Christmas orders MUST be placed AND paid for no later than Dec.1 !!! (NO EXCEPTIONS)

Christmas card orders must be placed by Nov. 15th (just around the corner...)

The studio will be closed for the Christmas holidays from Dec. 15th - Jan. 7. I will try to get to mails and phone calls as best I can, but it will not be of high priority until the studio opens back up.

My next available session is Jan. 10th (Sat).

And speaking of pictures on the blog... I am so, so, SO behind on sneak peeks. I'll try to get some of the past ones up when I get a chance. It is a busy time of year so the thought of being 'caught up' is a funny thought right now.

This couple was absolutely precious. I was so glad that I could work with them. I wasn't sure who was more excited about the baby coming...mom or dad! ha! They will make great parents for their baby girl...which will make her debut in a few weeks!

This sweet couple contacted me about scheduling a maternity session while they were in town visiting family. They are actually between moves (and STATES), and will be moving into their new residence any day now. We are back from Branson... My oldest daughter had dance National Finals this weekend and we all had a blast. As you can see above, they won 1st and second in their age division (and even made it to the dance off). We are so proud!

Last week I was able to photograph a baby of a special friend of mine. She and I have been friends since we were toddlers. We lived in Northwest Arkansas at the time and we've lost touch several times over the course of our lives. But it has always amazed me how our paths cross time and time again. We ended up going to the same college...in the same dorm. We grew closer again, and she was in our wedding. Then after graduation, we lost touch again. Every once in a while an email may go between us but I don't even think I'd conside it 'catching up'. Well, a few weeks ago, I got a phone call from her. She wanted me to photograph her baby while she was in town visiting family (they are in TN now...). So of COURSE I was very excited to do so.

When I saw Baby E. I was completely taken back in time...she looks just like her mama as little one (and her auntie too!). My friend also brought her mother, who said she got chills watching us together again. :) She also said that my girls look just like ME when I was little...I think I should photograph our girls together and compare, don't you?

WELL...to make a LONG stor short, my friend said she is probably moving to the LR area in a month or so! How exciting is that? I'll get to reconnect with an old friend and see this sweet angel grow up! I'm telling you, all she is missing here is her wings!

I love newborn sessions...and this little guy's was no exception. I know I have told several of you that I do not have any newborn pictures of either of my girls and it kills me! But I feel a little better knowing that I can create portraits for someone else of their new baby's first few days of life. Maybe this is why I enjoy it so much??

This little one was so cooperative! We even had him on a curved piece of wood that is at the bottom of their dining table! Can you believe it? Well, here he is...in a few more comfortable positions. :)

Sweet couple

Here is another sweet couple I've worked with recently. The mom-to-be contacted me about maternity portraits, and then soon after her husband contacted me to get a gift certificate for the Belly and Baby plan for her for Mother's Day and her Birthday. So, she was quite surprised when she opened that up! Wasn't that sweet?

Well, these two were so much fun to work with...and I can't wait to meet this sweet baby in the next month or so. We did half of their shoot a little more traditional with backdrops, then used the large window in my camera room for more a more unique look. These were our favorites!

Sisters

Meet the B. Sisters. At first glance, I mentioned how they reminded me of my girls...the oldest had long hair, the youngest had very blonde curly ringlets and their difference in age is about the same as well. Mom wanted something a little more natural than backdrops/lights so we used the window (you know 'I' was upset about that! Have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the windows in my studio???)

Then she saw the canvas hanging above the couch of my girls sitting in the window and said she wanted something like that. Usually clients walk in and mention other shots I've done, or other ones they have seen and want to replicate it and honestly, it rarely happens the way we want it to. Well...that day, the unthinkable happened--we got it! I couldn't believe it! So here is that one and one of each girl I've finished so far (because I KNOW having 2 kids myself, I just could NOT have possibly put up only one of them....right mom?)

At home sick...

Hey guys, just letting you know if you leave a message today or are expecting something from me, there is a chance you may not hear from me today. I am home sick and am trying to do a little work between my 'rest breaks'. :) I've got several to blog about before I go to bed tonight and several custom samples that will be finished and emailed out for approval hopefully today (I'd say in the morning at the latest...)

For those of you that had to reschedule with me...thank you for being so understanding. I NEVER get sick. I have lived her 4 years and didn't even have a regular family doctor! :)

I say that just for this mom's benefit...she was so worried she kept me out so late! :) I've known this family for a few years now, and we are about to say goodbye. They will be moving in a few weeks (dad is in the military) so they really wanted some great family shots of them with some Little Rock landmarks. I found this really awesome spot that had a fantastic backdrop of the city.

So I just had to share this particular image because of the LSU blanket. Dad is an LSU fan, mom is a.... (oh please don't kill me...Mississippi??) Anyway, we thought this would be a 'dad' shot. Too bad he didn't have a blanket from the other team, huh? Anyway, he was such a cutie! And he was such a good sport (especially about being curled up on his dresser with no blanket! I may have to show that one too later on...it is ADORABLE!) Don't you just want to give him a big squeeze?

It is funny how things work out sometimes... I was meeting this baby planner's mom at the Old Mill for a 'tutu' session outdoors. I pull up and see that the Old Mill is completely torn up, and there are workers everywhere! I was horrified! Luckily, the mom suggested we go back to her house to do some in her yard. We did a few in the front of the house (did I mention they have incredible landscaping?), then moved to the back of the house where I found a little path leading to an iron gate and I knew it was the perfect spot for her! So, while our plans changed, I am SO glad they did! Here's a few of this little garden princess.

I want to say thanks to a wonderful husband that is a fantastic daddy to our two children! He does so much for them (and me too!) that I thought I'd give him a little recognition here. :) He is also my behind-the-scenes man with my business. Yes, you rarely see him, but without him I know I could not be successful with this adventure of mine! Love you, honey!

Now, I know I said this at Mother's Day, but I keep thinking of all of those Daddies I've met this year that are celebrating their first Father's Day today...enjoy it!!

This family has been friends of ours for a few years now. Our oldest daughters are only 2 weeks apart! They moved about an hour away so we hadn't seen them in a while... The end of an era...

Two weekends ago, we moved my Mamaw out of the house she has lived in for decades and into an assisted living facility. Her new 'home' is beautiful and perfect for an elderly person...but that doesn't make it easy to leave the place that so many have called home for so many years.

I think I had been thinking about the move for a while (knowing it was coming...just not knowing when) and I had decided that I wanted to photograph some of the landmark items in the house that I never wanted to forget. So that weekend, I got my chance.

Then there are memories I have that there are no photographs for...like the metal roller skates I loved skating up and down the driveway in...the little dog, Snowball, that I used to play with through the fence...playing badmitton over the cable lines...laying in bed with my sister as a little girl and listening to The Night Before Christmas and realizing for the very first time that it doesn't HAVE to snow ON Christmas...playing with the Simon game and yo-yos...eating butter cookies on my fingers...Papaw's tub of bubble gum...the deep freeze that ALWAYS had ice cream in it for us...taking a glass of orange juice to my Papaw in the mornings...watching him watch Love Connection at night...knowing where the spare key was...listening to the old record player play 'does your chewing gum loose its' flavor on your bedpost overnight?'...playing with the paddlepool games...eating at the 'kids' table for Thanksgiving meals...swinging on the porch drinking iced tea...watching the June Bugs buzz around outside while eating homemade ice cream... The list could go on and on. And I'll probably add to it as I go along.

It was a long weekend for everyone involved, but I am so glad my family was able to be apart of it. I know my kids didn't meet my Papaw, but I never want them to forget being there with my Mamaw... There has been a lot of history and good memories in that house. It was always full of love and laughter (not to mention GREAT food). Everyone was welcome there, always. Truly, the more the merrier with them.

So goodbye, 1135 Gilbert Drive... I always want to remember you this way.

They are back in Arkansas for the birth of their baby boy also in a few weeks (didn't I say it was that time of year?)... You guys were so fun to work with. It seems the majority of my sessions lately have been maternity clients. I absolutely LOVE the maternity/newborn sessions! (I know I've said that before, but I really do!) This couple is no different... They were so fun to work with, and had some really great ideas for some awesome shots! I can't wait for them to see all of their proofs. Isn't it funny how babies have minds of their own? I went to Baby A's house for her first shoot, and her mom told me she had just fed her so she'd be sleepy. Well, wouldn't you know this baby had plans of her own! She was alert the whole time...awake and observant. :) She was such a good sport while we moved her all over trying to get the best shots possible. Here are few I've finished...she is such a doll!

So many of you ask about my children so I thought I'd share the latest session I have done with my 'baby'. She is 2 1/2 now and a ball of fire! Seriously though, she is absolutely precious and I feel so blessed to have a healthy, growing girl. And as always, she was running around like 2 year olds do...don't let the images above fool you. In fact, I did not think I had ANYTHING good until I started looking at them on the computer. That is pretty much how it is with toddlers...LOL.
